Finals - Game 2: Friday, August 25  Brewers win SMBL title

The Brewers used another 7th inning comeback to beat the Rangers 7-4 to win the SMBL title.  Derek Walter and Brady Fornwald both hit 2 RBI doubles in the top of the 7th to come back from a 4-3 deficit.  Garrett Guenther got the win in relief of Boyd Bergstrom.  Steve Pura pitched a great game on one healthy leg for the Rangers.

Finals - Game 1:  Wednesday, August 19
 
A heartstopping finish at Dief in game one, as the Rangers carried a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh, only to see the Brewers load the bases and score the winning runs with two out as Dan Holmes dropped a single into shallow centre field, just out of the reach of shortstop Justin Whiteside and centrefielder Kenny Howe, who collided on the play.........final score 3-2 Brewers........Brady Fornwald went the distance for the Brewers, while Mike Henschel pitched great in a losing cause.........game two goes Friday at Dief.
 
Monday, August 17:
 
At Dief, Lionel Redden threw a complete game as the Brewers defeated the Tigers 11-1 to claim the best of three semi-final series.  The Brewers will now face the Rangers in the league final, beginning Wednesday at Dief.
 
Wednesday, August 12:
 
At Leakos tonight, in game two of the Tigers-Brewers series, lots of great pitching, great defense, and in the end, it was all for naught in the overall scheme of things......The Tigers tied the game with two out in the bottom of the seventh, and two extra innings couldn't break the deadlock........it will go into the books as a 2-2 game that never happened.......in accordance with our league rules, game 2 will be replayed in its entirety on Monday night at Dief at 6 p.m..........somewhere the Rangers are smiling as they sit and wait.......

Tuesday, August 11

The Rangers beat the Wombats 11-6 to win their semi-final 2-0.  Barrett Taylor and Brady Waldenberg combined for the win.  The Rangers scored 5 runs in the first and held on for the win.  They will advance to the league final for the third year in a row against the winner of the Brewers-Tigers series.

The Brewers took game one of their series with the Tigers 7-1.  Brady Fornwald pitched a 3 hitter while Lionel Redden came in to close things out in the final inning.  Six different players recorded RBI's for the crew.

Monday, August 10

At Dief, the Rangers beat the Wombats 7-1 to take game 1 of their semi-final series.  Mike Henschel pitched a complete game for the win.  Justin Whiteside homered for the Rangers.  The Rangers scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to break open a close game.
 
Sunday, August 9
 
At Stonebridge South, the Tigers scored four runs in the first inning on their way to a 6-0 victory over the Armadillos.  Jamie Jantzen went the distance to record the shutout.  The Tigers will open their semi-final series against the Brewers on Tuesday at Dief.
 
At Stonebridge North, the Brewers completed their sweep of the Expos with a 9-4 victory.  Garret Gunther pitched six for the win and Mark Dodds came on to close the game out.  Derek Walters picked up two ribbies while picking up the first double of his career.
 
Wednesday, August 5

At Stonebridge South, the Wombats moved on to the second round after beating Bruno 5-1.  The Wombats scored in each of the last 3 innings and Dave Cooke threw a gem to pick up the win.

At Stonebridge North, the Rangers beat the Selects 7-2 to win their series 2-0.  Mike Henschel gave up 2 hits in pitching a complete game.  Kenny Howe had 4 stolen bases and 3 runs scored for the Rangers.

 
Thursday, July 30-Round 1

At Dief, the Rangers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to beat the Selects 5-4.  Brady Waldenberg got the win in relief and drove in the winning run.  Ryan Ilg and Lee Storm each had 3 hits for the Selects. 
 
At Stonebridge South, the Tigers exploded for 8 runs in the second inning on their way to an 11-5 victory over the Armadillos.  Brennan McHugh was the winning pitcher, while Jamie Jantzen came on in the fifth inning to record the save. 

At Stonebridge North with the wind blowing in, hard, the Bisons were pleased to hold the mighty Wombat offence to 5 runs...however, Tyler Knudsen pitched a gem and blanked the Bisons.  Lyle Evanisky, the largest second basement in the league, had a solid game at two bag to keep zero on the board.

At Leakos, Boyd Bergstrom got the five inning win as the Brewers downed the Expos 11-1.  Parker Robb went 3-4 at the dish with 3 runs scored.

Sunday, July 26 Elimination Games

At Leakos, the Expos extended their season win a 3-1 win over the Angels.  Brandon Strohan threw the complete game for the Expos.  They will move on to face the Brewers tomorrow night.

At Dief, the Selects topped the Rhinos 6-4.  More stats to come...the Selects move on to play the Rangers tomorrow night as well.

The 3-6 series will pit the defending champion Wombats against Bruno on Tuesday and Thursday.

The 4-5 matchup will see the Armadillos take on the Tigers on Tuesday and Thursday.

Remember, the higher seed is responsible for picking up baseballs for the round from Olympian.  Good luck.

Friday, July 24

At Leakos, Bruno defeated the Pirates 5-4 to wind up the regular season.  Yuniel Ramos got the complete game victory and three ribbies.

Thursday, July 23

At Dief, the Brewers beat the Angels 8-6 as Kyle Gregoire and Lionel Redden combined for the win.  Taylor Robb went 3-4 and had 3 ribbies while Aaron Fornwald came out of retirement to play with his son, dishing out two defensive gems in the process.

At Leakos, Jason McCrea went six scoreless innings for the Bisons as they downed the Selects 7-0.  Yuniel Ramos came on to close the game out in the seventh.

Wednesday, July 22:

At Dief, the Angels kept their top-six playoff hopes alive by downing the Skunks 8-3, as Nolan Regier pitched five innings to earn the win.

At Leakos, the Brewers clinched first as Brady Fornwald threw one over the minimum and picked up the 12-0 win over the Rangers.  Parker Robb went 2-3 with 4 ribbies.

Tuesday, July 21

At Leakos, the Armadillos clinched fourth place by defeating the Rhinos 8-3, as Drew Atkins went the distance to earn the win.  The Armadillos will face the Tigers in the first round, beginning next Tuesday at Dief.

At Dief, the Expos busted out the champagne as they secured a top ten spot this year and their first ever playoff birth with a 19-9 win over the Outlaws.

At Stonebridge South, the Cannons downed the Pirates 6-5 and despite finishing .500, were denied a top ten finish.

Monday, July 20

At Leakos, Shawn Baier picked up the win as the Wombats beat the Reds 17-1.

At Stonebridge South, Marlow Knight picked up the win as the Brewers defeated the Pirates 6-3.  Brady Fornwald was 3-3 with 2 RBI's.

At Stonebridge North, the Rangers downed the Skunks 8-1.  Brady Waldenberg lead the way offensively with 2 RBI's.

At Dief, the Tigers defeated the Cannons 15-1, with Jamie Jantzen pitching five innings for the win.

Sunday, July 19:

At Leakos, the Armadillos scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip the Cubs 5-4.  Andrew Leslie singled in the winning run.  Chad Nixey picked up the win in relief of Kevin Andal.  With the win, the Armadillos clinched a top-six playoff berth.

At Stonebridge North, the Selects punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 5-1 victory over the Royals.  Evan Latos pitched the complete game for the win.

At Dief, Dan Holmes went the distance for the win as the Brewers beat the Reds 20-2.  Lee Coates was 3-3 at the plate with 3 ribbies.

At Stonebridge South, Barrett Taylor and Brady Waldenberg combined for the win as the Rangers beat the Rhinos 12-8.

Friday, July 17:

At Stonebridge South, the Tigers secured a top-six playoff spot with an 8-3 victory over the Expos.  Dusty Nesbitt was the winning pitcher, while Gavin Andrews went 3 for 4 to pace the offense.

At Stonebridge North, the Cubs downed the Reds 6-4.

Thursday, July 16:

At Dief, the Rhinos downed the Cannons 12-2, as Ryan Usher went the distance for the win.  Ush also went 4/4 with a grand slam and 5 ribbies.........other than that, he didn't do much to help the cause.

At Stonebridge, the Royals spotted the Wombats four runs, then came charging back to earn a 7-4 win.  Darren Johnson pitched a complete game to earn the win, while Mike Yeager made his second appearance for the Royals this season after not playing for 15 years and went 2-3 with a huge RBI and an amazing catch in right field to end the game.........I guess he was well rested........... 

At Leakos, the Brewers beat the Rangers 6-2.  Kyle Gregoire pitched 4 innings for the win and Boyd Bergstrom picked up the 3 inning save.  Dan Holmes had 3 RBI's for the Brewers.

Wednesday, July 15

At Stonebridge North, the Armadillos made a first inning run stand up as Taylor Holubetz and Karsten Strelioff combined to shut out the Selects 1-0.  Strelioff also drove in the only run for the winners.

At Stonebridge South, the Rangers scored in the bottom of the 7th to beat the Cannons 5-4.  The Cannons had tied the game at 4 with 2 runs in the top of the 7th.  Mike Henschel pitched a complete game for the Rangers while Tyrel Kerpan pitched well in a complete game for the Cannons.

Tuesday, July 14

At Dief, Tyler Russell picked up the win as the Royals topped the Outlaws 15-2.

At Stonebridge North, Adam Olchowski went the distance for the Bisons as they beat the Expos 14-2.

At Stonebridge South, the Armadillos helped their chances of finishing in the top 6 spots by beating the Brewers 9-5.

At Leakos, the Rhinos beat the Pirates 6-4, with Donny P going 5 strong innings for the win and Jason Garchinski recording a 2 inning save.

At Leakos, the Selects scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to edge the Armadillos 6-5.  Evan Latos went the distance to earn the win.
 
At Stonebridge South, Chaz Cavallero and Kyle Bregenser combined on a two-hitter as the Angels downed the Cubs 14-1.  Tanner Baht had five RBI for the winners.

 At Dief, Brennan McHugh went six strong for the Tigers as they beat the Rhinos 9-2.  Jamie Jantzen came on in the 7th to close the door for the Tigers.

At Stonebridge North, Shawn Baier got the complete game win as the Wombats overcame the Expos.

Friday, July 10

At Dief, Steve Pura pitched one over the minimum for the Rangers in a 16-0 win over the Selects. Tim Hollman was on base all 4 times and scored three.

At Stonebridge North, the Angels took one step closer to the playoffs by downing the Royals 3-1.  Nolan Regier went the distance for the win, while Kyle Bregenser went 2 for 3 and drove in the winning run.

At Leakos, the Tigers scored 6 runs in the 1st and were able to hold on, beating the Cubs 6-2.  Dan Bater came on for the Cubs in the s2nd and held the Tigers to one hit for the remainder of the game.  Regan Sproule went 5-1/3 to pick up the win for the Tigers with Jamie Jantzen coming in to finish the game.  Brian Bauer had a bases clearing double in the 1st for the Tigers.


Thursday, July 9

At Stonebridge South, the Brewers blanked the Skunks 10-0 as Boyd Berstrom threw a two hitter.  Jamie Coates hit another triple and paced the offence for the brew crew.

At Leakos, Darren Johnson racked up 15 K's as the Royals beat the Outlaws 6-1.  Johnson also went 2-2 at the plate, and Blake Weatherald had three ribbies and an inside the park homer.

At Dief, the Expos extended their unbeaten streak to 7 games as they beat the Wombats 8-4.  Brandon Strohan went the distance for the win and Jesse Murray recorded three hits.

Wednesday, July 8
 
At Dief, the Armadillos opened up leads of 7-0 and 10-4, but the Rhinos tied it up at 10 in the bottom of the sixth, before Ethan Magura's two-out single scored two runs in the top of the seventh for the Armadillos 12-10 victory in a defensively suspect affair from both squads...........John Abdulnour scored three runs and knocked in four for the Armadillos, while Drew Atkins contributed four singles.  Chad Nixey picked up the win in relief.

At Stonebridge South, the Rangers beat the Cubs 21-3 in 6 innings.  Darwin Redlick got the win for the Rangers and went 4-4 at the dish.  Tim Waugh also went 5-5 with 5 ribbies.

At Leakos, the Wombats scored in 5 of 7 innings, coming back from behind to beat the Bisons 8-5. Calvin Foltz came on in relief to record the win.

At Stonebridge North, the Cannons beat the Reds 12-2.
 
Tuesday, July 7th

At Diefenbaker, Bruno beat the Royals 10-5.  Tanner Syroteuk picked up the win and Yuniel Ramos came on in the 6th to seal the victory.
 
At Stonebridge North, the Skunks and Expos game finished in a 9-9 tie after 8 innings. Jesse Murray had 3 runs and 2 stolen bases for the Expos, while Landon Zimmer had 4 runs and 5 stolen bases for the Skunks. 
At Leakos, the Brewers beat the Reds 15-2.  Dan Holmes threw a two hitter while Jamie Coates and Kyle Gregoire pitched in with a couple of triples in the win.
At Stonebridge South, the Selects downed the Pirates 6-5.  Evan Latos went the distance striking out 12 in the win.
 
Monday, July 6

At Stonebridge South, the Angels downed the Armadillos 10-4.  Chaz Cavallaro pitched the complete game while Kyle Bregenser went 2-3 with a homer and Tanner Baht went 2-3 with 2 ribbies.

At Stonebridge North, the Tigers beat the Cubs 14-0.  John Deibert picked up the complete game win, allowing only 1 hit.  Mike Broadfoot went 1-1 at the dish with a HR and 3 runs scored, while Jared Bayne went 3-3 with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

At Leakos, Brock Thiessen threw a complete game 3 hit shutout as the Cannons beat the Rangers 1-0.  Barrett Taylor also pitched well for the Rangers in going the distance.
At Dief, the Wombats beat the Outlaws 22-3.  Aaron Baier was the winning pitcher, and Tyler Knudsen went 4-4 to pace the offence.

Sunday, June 28th

At Leakos, the Skunks defeated the Outlaw's 12-1. Darron Taylor picked up the win while Bren Hannay, and Sean Hoey both had 3 hits to lead the offense.

The Brewers won 8-2 over the Cannons at Stone S. in a hot, muggy game.  Boyd Bergstrom pitched a complete game and had 2 RBI's.

At Dief, Chad Nixey hit a 3 run homer in the sixth inning to tie the Pirates 3-3, and Drew Atkins finished off the comeback with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 7th to give the Armadillo's a 4-3 win. Nixey was also the winning pitcher in relief of Chad Mukanik.

At Stonebridge North, Barrett Taylor picked up the win as the Rangers topped the Royals 6-2.  Dave Pura plated 2 in the win.

Friday, June 26th

The Rangers tallied an 11-1 win over the Angels at Stone N.

The Rhinos' bats were alive and well in an 18-3 decision over the Cubs at Dief.  

At Leakos, the Expos defeated the Pirates 7-1. Brandon Strohan went the distance, recording 8 strikeouts in the win.

At Stonebridge South, Adam Olchowski went the distance for the 13-3 win over the Reds.

Thursday, June 25

At Stonebridge South, the Armadillos downed the Skunks 5-2, as Chad Mukanik returned to the mound for the first time since opening night, striking out 15 over six innings for the win.  Ethan Magura scored two runs to lead the way offensively.

Brewers won 11-4 at Dief as Brady Fornwald went the distance.  Jamie Coates and Levi Pawrence each went 3 for 4 with 3 rbis.


Wednesday, June 24th

At Stonebridge South, the Expos defeated the Cannons 13-5.  Jesse Murray went the distance for the win.

At Stonebridge North, the Reds picked up the win by downing the Outlaws 8-4.

At Leakos, Evan Latos went the distance as the Selects beat the Royals 6-4.

At Dief, Nolan Regier and Yuniel Ramos engaged in a pitchers duel, with Regier coming away with the complete game victory as the Angels beat the Bisons 2-1.  Dan Fortosky scored the winning run and went 3-3 in the win.

Tuesday, June 23

At Stonebridge South, the Pirates defeated the Tigers 8-2.  Dave Fitzsimmons went the distance for the win, while Jeff Lanfermann paced the offense with four RBI.

At Dief, the Rangers beat the Reds 11-0 in 5 innings.  Darwin Redlick pitched a complete game shutout.

At Stonebridge North, the Expos beat the Cubs 11-5 over 7 innings.  Jeremy Rigby swiped home to score was turned out to be the winning run with the pitcher throwing from the full.  Maclean Nelson got the win going 6 innings, while Colton Jensen finished the game off.

Monday, June 22

At Stone N., the Cannons rallied from a 5-0 deficit to nip the Royals 7-6 in nine innings.  Tyler Kerpan pitched 8 innings, racking up 10 strikeouts, while brother Josh worked a spotless ninth to pick up the win in relief.  Skyler Feltis knocked in two runs, while Rob Spinney scampered home on a throwing error in the ninth with the winning run.

At Stonebridge South, the Selects downed the Outlaws 15-4.  Ryan Ilg got the complete game victory.

At Leakos, the Brewers got out to an early lead and poured on the runs in the sixth and seventh, hammering the Bisons 17-3.

At Dief, the Bennan McHugh went the distance for the Tigers as they topped the Wombats 3-2 in 8 innings.  Tyler Knudsen pitched well in the loss.  Jared Bayne went 2-4 with a ribbie and run scored to pace the offence.

Thursday, June 18

At Dief, it was a pitchers duel between Lionel Redden and Brandon Strohan, with Redden taking a no hitter into the sixth and Strohan racking up 8 K's over 7 innings.  In the bottom of the sixth, the Expos bats came alive scoring 4 runs to overtake the Brewers 4-2.

At Stonebridge South, in another well pitched game between Steve Pura and Tanner Syroteuk, Bruno scored a run on a close play at home to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the 7th and eventually hold on to beat the Rangers 5-4.  Jason McCrea came on in the 7th to record the save.

At Stone N., the Outlaws fell to the Pirates 9-7.  Brian Peters was the proud father as Jeff, Scott, and Ben Peters formed a wall in the outfield as they manned all three positions together at one point in the game.

Shawn Baier got his 5th complete game win of the season with a 10-0 defeat of the Skunks at Leakos.


Wednesday, June 17
 
At Stonebridge North, the Armadillos defeated the Reds 13-3.  Drew Atkins was the winning pitcher, while Jordan Bird pitched the final two innings for the save.

At Dief, the Royals scored 3 in the second and never looked back as they beat the Tigers 7-4.  Darren Johnson went the distance for the win and Blake Weatherald hit a 3-run homer to plate the winning runs.

At Leakos, the Angels topped the Cannons 13-1.  Mike Cavallaro picked up his third win, racking up 10 K's.  Dan Fortosky kept his hitting streak alive going 3-5 with 4 ribbies, and Johnny Campbell went 2-4 with 3 ribbies.

At Stonebridge South, the Rhinos beat the Selects 8-6 despite a hard push from the selects in the 7th where Cory King made a nice play to end the threat.  Ryan Mazzei went the distance and picked up 9 K's, each from a different arm slot.  Josh Slack lead the way offensively and picked up an inside the park home run.

 
Tuesday, June 16

At Stonebridge North, the Skunks were able to come back and hand the Rangers their first loss of the season, winning 5-4. Dustin Voth picked up the win in relief, with Darron Taylor notching the save. 

The Wombats were 14-1 winners over the Outlaws at Dief. tonight.  Dave Cooke got the complete game victory while Jonny Best led the Bats in offense.

At Stonebridge South, a foul ball just below the elbow forced Jules, the sole umpire, from the game in the top of the third meaning that Bruno and the Expos were unable to finish...we both with Jules the best of luck, it didn't look good.  The game will be played at a later date.


Monday, June 15

Rhinos win 13 to 5 at Stone S.  Robert  Friesen  goes 7 strong with 9ks in the win over the Skunks.  Jason Mazzei was batting in the 4-hole for the first time since he was 18, going 3 for 4.  It was 5-3 Rhinos going into the 7th when they broke it open with an 8-ender.

At Leakos, the Selects downed the Cubs 15-4.  Evan Latos had 13 K's in the victory.

At Stonebridge North, Jamie Jantzen went the distance as the Tigers beat the Angels 3-1 in 8 innings. Regan Sproule had 2 hits and scored twice for the victors.

At Dief, Bruno scored in the bottom of the 10th to defeat the Cannons 4-3.  Adam Olchowski went 7 innings, and Jason McCrea came in to pitch the final 3 and pick up the win.  Colin Olchowski crossed the plate to score the winning run for Bruno.
